Signs of Balding and What to Do About Them

Sudden balding in its whole is rarely seen since hair fall, hair thinning and miniaturisation (thinning) are often precursors of complete balding as significant signs of the coming storm.  But, in our busy lifestyles of the modern world we may often not be able to recognise this sign until it gets too late. Here are some of the signs that you may be ignoring and should probably give some thought to:

  1. Too many hair strands on your pillow

Often the dramatic television advertisements about hair products start with a girl waking up in the morning and noticing a bunch of hair on her pillow. Although, you may not find bunches of hair on your pillow in the morning, a significant number of hair could indicate a problem in the making. Hair fall on a daily average should range from 50-100 strands and a number more than that should definitely attract your attention.

What to do about it?

  • If friction is the problem, prefer not to tie your hair while sleeping.
  • Use a pillow cover made of materials such as Silk which cuts down on the number of hair loss.
  1. Too much hair on your brush

Shampooing and brushing your hair early in the morning can become terrifying for some who notice a large number of hair strands on the brush. This is perhaps the first sign that people start to notice at the beginning of hair loss.

What to do about it?

  • Comb your hair before shampooing your hair. It reduces the chances of your hair getting entangled and hence of hair fall too.
  • Always use a conditioner after shampoo. It locks in the nutrients in your hair and prevents dust from accumulating in them. It also helps comb the hair more easily.
  • Never comb completely wet hair as they tend to get even more entangled.
  • Prefer to use a hair serum before combing your hair. When applied on semi dry hair it helps comb your hair more easily.
  • Use a wide toothed brush instead of small ones as they tend to pull more onto your scalp and hence cause more hair fall.
  • Comb your hair gently.
  1. Receding Hair Line

A receding hair line is often noticed by those around you since you become more and more accustomed to it over time. Once noticed, however, it becomes a major cause of worry.

What to do about it?

  • Try not to pull your hair while making different hair styles. Traction due to tight hair styles is a major cause of hair loss and should be avoided at all costs.
  • Change the direction of your comb frequently. Pulling onto your hair in the same direction for years can lead to gradual thinning of hair in the area. Give your hair some rest by changing the direction of your comb frequently and try different styles.
  1. Dull/ Frizzy Hair

Often we consider hair fall as normal or insignificant but accompanied by a lost lustre, the hair can look even more dull and unattractive.

What to do about it?

  • Reduce the number of times your shampoo in a week. Daily shampooing of hair takes away the natural oils from it and leads to duller looking hair. A lack of natural oils on your scalp can also cause fizziness.
  • As stated earlier, make conditioning your hair after shampooing a part of your routine.
  • Comb your hair before going to sleep. This causes the natural oils in your hair accumulated in the day to spread evenly onto your scalp at night.
  • Add proteins generously to your diet. As is universally well known, proteins are the building blocks of keratin that makes your hair stronger and shinier, so add eggs, pulses, green leafy vegetables and the likes to your diet to get better hair.

These are some of the signs to look for that can be detected early and prevent balding in the future. However, reversing the procedure may not always be this easy. Hair Transplant techniques can then come to the rescue.
